Server 2003 Automatic Update Greyed out
I have a primary Server 2003 that has the automatic up feature greyed out. I found the group policy setting on the domain controller and changed it with a reboot but it is still greyed out. I also have 3 member servers where the automatic updates are greyed out and can not be change. Does anyone know why the option is greyed out under the administrator account? Any help would be appreciated.

Whenan option is greyed out in the user interface this is typically caused by an appliedGroup Policy Object (GPO) Using rsop.msc on the console of your server you can see which Group Policy Object on what level (Local settings, Active Directory Site settings, Active Directory Domain settings, settings from Organizational Units) applies the setting. You can then change the setting in the right Group Policy Object(s).More information on running rsop.msc on Windows Server 2003 can be found in Microsoft Knowledgebase article323276.

FIX: 1) Go the registry key folder HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU (use regedit) 2) Set AUOptions key value to 5 to allow you to change the settings. Have Fun! :-)BrightVisions.co.uk IT-Support
