Server 2003 - Login Field Anomalies
I am running Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise 64-Bit as a SQL Server. 2 year ago, I added this new server to our local Domain and it worked fine. When I logged in, I entered my Domain User Account, password, and selected the Network Domain from the drop down list. Recently, something has changed and now the Domain field shows only the local computer which is dulled out and I have no drop down list from which to choose. The User field now makes me enter my username in the following format: Domain\UserIf I enter my password for the Domain user, it logs in and I have access to all my network resources as I did before. I have tried removing the server from the network domain, and deleting it from the Computer Accounts in Active Directory, then re-adding the server to the network domain. This did nothing to resolve my problem. This is the only server out of the 5 that I have that is doing this. What could have caused this and how can I correct it?

Hi,
Thank you for your post.
If I understand correctly, you find that the log on to drop down list is grey out and you cannot choose the domain when you logon the Windows Server 2003 computer. However, you can logon the compute with the domain account by using the format domain\user and access the domain resource as before.
Based on my experience, a possible cause is that the NoDomainUI registry value is created and set to 1 on the computer. Please open registry editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon, and check if the NoDomainUI registry value is created. If so, please remove it and check if the issue goes away.
If the issue persists, please collect the following information on the Windows Server 2003 computer for further research:
1. Please export the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon].
2. Please capture a screen shot of the logon window.
3. Please collect a MPSReport:a. Download the executable file from the following URLhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd915706/MPSRPT_DirSvc.EXEb. Run the file on the computer.c. After the tool finishes gathering the information, copy the cab file from the following folder:C:\WINDOWS\MPSReports\DirSvc\cab
Please zip and upload the information to the following space:
https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=9283139e-e469-4008-b6c5-d46ff0d79f0c
Password: xgRhP@t1*
Meanwhile, I would like to confirm if you install some third-party program to replace the default msgina.dll.
Thanks. I look forward to your response.
