Server 2003/2000 DC to Server 2008 r2

I have currently 2 Domain Controllers on our network.

DCServer = Server 2003 and is the primary DC

DC = Server 2000 and is a backup DC.

DCServer died and with it lost its hard drive at the same time with no backups available.

I have a new server using Server 2008 R2 that I want to put into DCServer's place and use the same IP and Name.

When I try to do this I get a message that says DCServer already is an account on the network and will not let me do it.

The new server is a virgin box and as of right now has no roles configured.

What steps should I take to be able to have this new server take the place of the original DCServer and transfer all of the AD and DC info from DC the old backup server to the new server??

I have searched for 2 days now and can't find anything that kinda matches what my task is..

I'm not a server person, I'm the programmer but need to handle doing this while our normal server person is out of the country...

Thanks for any help in advance..

Rick

you can follow the below steps

1. I assumed you don't have backup of your primary dc.Therefore pls seize the FSMO roles

2. Remove that crashed server from AD(https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/555846/)

3. Now you can add new server with the same name

4. Promote your new server as a domain controller

5. Move the fsmo roles to new server(https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/324801/)

I'm good up to this point..

When I setup the AD DC and I run dcprom.exe I get about half way thru and I get a window that pops up and says I must run adprep /domainprep on this computer. So I cancel out and go run adprep /domainprep and I get another error window that says it can only be run on an active domain controller. So I am stuck in a catch 22 here. I'm not sure what I need to do next to get past this..
