The most important thing you need to check is 1) You should be on the same sub net of the broadband modem network. 2) Default gateway should point to the broadband modem ip address. 3) DNS should be configured as isp dns if you have a standalone server. If domain controller please used the ISP dns as forwarders. http://www.arabitpro.com

Hello, I would agree with Syed. However, you have also to check that the NIC cards drivers are installed correctly. I don't know how your PC was installed but it may be a driver compatibility issue. Anyway, Windows Server 2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. You are not getting an address from any DHCP server. Do you have one on your network? Perhaps if you try to put in a static IP. Try this link http://portforward.com/networking/static-2k.htm

I believe this computer is the DHCP, it is a server from an old office network. It is stand alone now, my plan is to use it for a gaming server. I have DHCP pulled up, but due to my lack of knowledge, I have no idea what to do with it.

I'm sorry, every time I go to type modem I end up typing router. I don't have a router, just a cable modem. I don't know how to do that with the command prompt. I tried accessing the modem through the web browser and it indicated that there was no connection. The computer recognizes that it is connected to something physically, but will not connect to it.

You have to set the DHCP settings to static and then use an address that is on your network... you can't have a DHCP server with an ip of 0.0.0.0 that means there is no address. also a DHCP server cannot get an address from DHCP. Other than that, I can't help you by telling you what address you need because it is different for every network. If you need help finding where to put the information, i can help you there.

You can't use the address from the other computer while the other computer is on... it will cause IP conflicts. If you are looking for a normal computer to use day to day things, don't use server 2000. Build or buy a new computer and put windows 7 on it.
