Seperate forests using trusts. Sharing folders
I have two Win2003 forests with trusts setup between them. In domain A, forest A, I can access a shared folder
\\servername\share on domain B, forest B, using any XP computer on domain A. However, none of my Win2003 servers on domain A can connect to that shared folder. When I try
\\servername\share it give a dialog box saying Windows cannot find
\\servername\share. I have a WINS entry on all domain A servers.
When I try \\servername.domain.com\share it brings up a login prompt but I can only access the folder but putting in domainB\username.
Thanks in Advance,
Myron

Do you have a two-way trust?
>> Windows cannot find
– NetBIOS name resolution issue.
Make sure you are using the correct WINS/DNS server on the workstation.
>> When I try
\\servername.domain.com\share it brings up -
That means FQDN name resolution is working.
If you can’t access the share using user account, check the folder and share permission settings.

Thanks for the response.
It is a two-way trust. I've double-checked the WINS settings on the servers and workstation. The big difference to me is that it works on XP workstations and not on the 2003 servers. I even logged into an XP machine with my admin account and I could connect
to the share just fine.

Hi,
Based on the current situation, please install network monitor on the Windows Server 2003 computer, the Windows XP computer and the server where the share folder stores.
After that, please reproduce the different result and capture the network traffic for further research.
Please install Netmon 3.3 on the computers
Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=983b941d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f
Right-click the Netmon icon and select Run as Administrator to launch NetMon3.3 on the Windows XP computer and the file server.
In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 window, click Create a new capture tab.
In the new tab, select all the Network Adapters in the Select Networks window.
Press
F10 to start NetMon. On the XP computer, access the share folder.
After you connect to the share folder, please go back to the NetMon window and press F11 to stop the NetMon on both computers.
Press Ctrl+S to save the netmon files as success.cap.
Repeat the steps 2 – 8 to capture the network traffic between the Windows Server 2003 computer and the file server when the issue occurs.
After that, please save the netmon files as failure.cap.
Please upload the netmon files to the following space:
