Security Update Error-KB3045318-SQL Server 2012

We are having many Security Update failures for SQL patches in MS15-058.  One in particular is KB3045318-SQL Server 2012 SP1 running on Windows 2012 R2.  These updates are being delivered and run by SCCM 2012 R2.  Following is info concerning this particular error:

Feature                         : Reporting Services - SharePoint

Status                          : Failed: see logs for details

Reason for failure         : An error occurred during the setup process of the feature.

Next Step                     : Use the following information to resolve the error, uninstall this feature, and then run the setup process again.

Component name         : SQL Server Reporting Services

Component error code : 0x84CF0003

 

Error description          : Updating permission setting for folder 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\WebServices\RSTempFiles\' failed. The folder permission setting were supposed to be set to

'D:(A;OICI;FA;;;S-1-5-21-4194811806-924306954-1716104700-1004)(A;OICI;FA;;;BA)(A;OICI;FA;;;SY)(A;OICI;FA;;;S-1-5-80-956008885-3418522649-1831038044-1853292631-2271478464)(A;OICI;FA;;;CO)(A;OICI;0x1201bf;;;S-1-5-21-4194811806-924306954-1716104700-1005)'.

The above link for error help does not work.

Any SQL people out there experiencing these errors?  Any help would be appreciated.

To add the rights to the local administrator account, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to the computer as a user who has administrative credentials.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type Control admintools, and then click OK.
  3. Double-click Local Security Policy.
  4. In the Local Security Settings dialog box, click Local Policies, double-click User Rights Assignment, and then double-click Backup Files and Directories.
  5. In the Backup Files and Directories Properties dialog box, click Add User or Group.
  6. In the Select User or Groups dialog box, type the user account that is being used for setup, and then click OK two times.
  7. Repeat the procedure for the other two policies that are mentioned in the "Cause" section.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit to close the Local Security Settings dialog box.

Hi llegg,

Based on my research, the above error could be related to anti-virus/protection software or mount points.

Please ensure that you right-click the installer and choose Run as Administrator to start it . Also make sure that you disable self defence option in your anti-virus/protection software as described in this similar thread.

Moreover, if mount points are involved in this scenario, please create a folder under the mounted folder. Security permissions cannot be applied to the mounted folder itself.

However, if the issue still persists, please help to post the summary and detail logs for analysis. For more details about viewing SQL Server setup log files, please review this article.
