Secured System State Backup
Hi,
We have got 60 DC's installed across different locations. We take regular System State Backups of all the DC's. These backups are then taken on Tape Drives by local Admins there at locations. I am looking forward to secure these backups by mean of PAssword
or any other mechanism. Please let me know if there is any way to achive this either by using NTBackup utility or any other third party tool.
The main motive it that if someone steals the backup they should not be able to do anything with that.
All the DC's are either Windows 2003 or Windows 2008.
Thanks,

Hello,
If you have WAN link across DC's, Better go for any Backup monitoring tool (either TSM, Networker or sysmantec backup exec) and integrate all DC's with that.
Also schedule backups according to your requirement.Regards, Ravikumar P

Have you considered using any free archiving tools like 7zip ? You can use it with password protection without compression ratio. Use 7zip archive to store 1-1 file and secure it with password. That's the best way for NTBackup utility :)Regards, Krzysztof ---- Visit my blog at http://kpytko.wordpress.com

How about Tape Encryption mechanism ?
I used Tape Encryption feature available in Symantec Backup Exec and it works very well. Even if you loose your encrypted tapes, data cannot be accessed until and unless Tapes are decrypted using the secure key !
