Searching a string in windows has become dead slow

Hi

I am using Windows 2012 server with 2.40 GHZ processor and 128 GB Ram(96 GB usable) system type: 64 bit. There are many users who remotely connects and works on them. CPU nevers goes beyond 15 to 20% and memory always btw 30 to 40% utilized. I have a strange issue while searching a string in windows and search has become dead slow, the result is never ends.

I have validated through "Server Manager" Windows search service is installed and window search service is active and running.

Kindly help me on this. Your help is highly appreciated!

You can rebuild the index too. Index option in the control panel or via mcbuilder.exe. Do you have the windows search role installed ?

Thanks a bunch. I went to control panel -> Indexing options

it seems "indexing options waiting to receive indexing status" for long time and stuck. Can you help me how to bring back indexing working in windows 2012 server.

I'd try deleting the catalog files and start over.
