Search files with no file extension
All, I'm trying to help some application people that are trying to do a character search within files that have no file extension. They are trying to do this with a variety of Server 2003 flavors. They tell me that this has worked for them before but now doesn't work?? Don't shoot the messenger, just relaying info :). They also can not add extensions to the files because they are associated with SAP and that would break SAP processes if they change the files. Maybe I'm thinking too hard but is it just as easy as associating the files with notepad and than you will be able to search them? If anyone can assist, I would appreciate it. TIA, Dean

Hi, Do you want to search the contents of the file, such as some key words in *.doc, *.txt, *.ppt, etc. You can using Windows SharePoint Services to search. Please refer to the following article: Plan for search (Windows SharePoint Services) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288477(office.12).aspx
