Screensaver doesn't execute
On all my Win 2k8 R2 servers (also the one running SP1 beta) my screensavers don't start without checking "On resume, display logon screen" I Don't want this when it's not needed. Is it possible or not to run screensavers without this setting applied?

Hello, i have no problem on my Windows server 2008 R2 running the screen saver when the setting is unchecked. Make sure you don't use GPOs which prevent this. Check the following: User configuration, policies, administrative templates, control panel, personalization, in the right pane "Password protect the screen saver" Also keep in mind that running BETA versions from the SP on production servers is a risky task and NOT supported. You can apply the group policy "Enable Screen Saver" in Group Policy Management Editor --- User Configuration --- Policies --- Administrative Template --- Control Panel --- PersonalizationShaon Shan| TechNet Subscriber Support in forum| If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

This is what I have set in my GPO (which works as I checked it with the results wizard and have no other problems with GPO) I enabled the following settings in User Configuration - Policies - Administrative Templates - Control Panel - Personalization: Prevent changing color scheme Prevent changing theme Prevent changing visual style for windows and buttons Enable screen saver Prevent changing desktop background Prevent changing mouse pointers Prevent changing screen saver Prevent changing sounds Screen saver timeout (set at 60 for testing) Force specific screen saver (set with C:\Windows\Netpresenter.scr as screensaver) (but I tested with standard screen savers as well and this one does run on the console just not in terminal sessions) I disabled Password protect the screen saver as that is our wish the rest is set at Not configured When I check the regsitry settings in hkey_users once the user is logged in I see these settings in software - policies - microsoft - control pabel - desktop: ScreenSaveActive 1 ScreenSaveIsSecure 0 ScreenSaveTimeOut 60 SCRNSAVE.EXE C:\Windows\Netpresenter.scr p.s. I have SP1 beta on test servers only

Hi, As Password Protect the ScreenSaver is disabled, users should not able to check the box "On resume, display logon screen". From the registry key, the ScreenSaveIsSecure value = 0, which means the policy is applied, so it seems that there is something conflict the setting. Please check whethat C:\windows\netpresenter.scr exists on client computers. Also you can have a try to change the Password Protect the ScreenSaver to not configured to see if screensaver will be started automatically.Shaon Shan| TechNet Subscriber Support in forum| If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
