Samba Folder Visibility Issue Windows 2008 R2
I'm not sure what version of Samba we're connecting to, but if we map a drive to it, it works fine. But if you browse to the same exact \\sambaserver\path, the share appears empty. We're using active directory authentication and are logged in as the credentialed user, so we are not prompted for user/pass in either case. If you try to create a file in the "empty" share, you get: "Could not find this item This is no longer located in \\sambaserver. Verify the item's location and try again." With a big folder icon and the path name next to it. Has anyone run into this issue before?

Sean, I did some looking around and came across this: http://blog.dirtchild.net/samba-shares-acting-strangely-with-vista-or-w. It appears that adding the line "host msdfs = no" to the globals section in the smb.conf file resolved the issue. This line will stop Samba from acting as a DFS server.

Hi Sean, Thanks for posting here. When did the issue start ?Will this issue also occur on other clients with different OS installed? How did you map it ? Have also inputted any credential during mapping ? Have also tried access via IP address instead host name ? Thanks. This sounds very promising. I'll try it next time we have an outage and let you know.
