SSRS - Target Server URL Permission Issues

I am in the process of learning SQL Reporting Services and was following along in an MVA course, was able to build and Preview the report, but ran into an issue when trying to deploy the report that I created. After reviewing various postings on this issue, I still can't seem to get past the issue. Appreciate any help or suggestions of links / on-line course to help me understand SQL / I.E. security settings in more detail.

Currently running SQL 2014 Developer Edition, SQL Server Data Tools for VS 2013, and O/S Windows 8.1 all on the laptop

I followed the video and left the default value of LocalHost\ReportServer. System said Localhost\Report Server could not be found.

I went to SQL Configuration Manager and tried using the Logon as the URL. Still received the same error.

I went to Reporting Services Configuration Manager and used the URL, still received the same error.

Based on my research I am not the first one to learn this the hard way, appreciate any help you can provide.

 Thanks

Hi Clayton,

According to your description, when you deploy the report to report server, the error displays Localhost\Report Server could not be found, right?

In your scenario, please open Reporting Services Configuration Manager, click the URL in Web Service tab, check if you are able to access report server. If you are able to access report server with the URL, please specify the TargetServer URL using this URL in properties of the project.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Best regards,
Qiu

Thank you for your response back. I tried to access the link from the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and received the following error message User 'Business\Clayton' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed.

I recall seeing a thread about Windows Firewall and added an inbound rules, TCP / Port 80, but still have not resolved the issue. I am running Norton Security.

I will review the reference materials you provided above and continue trying to figure this out on my own, but would appreciate any further guidance you might be able to provide.

Thanks

Try and Right-click and run the "Reporting Services Configuration Manager" as an administrator. That or try disabling the UAC.

Thank you for response back. I tried to run "Reporting Services Configuration Manager" as an administrator. No issues with that aspect, able to make changes if needed, but that did not resolve the issue.

I am still learning about the UAC, I did go into norton and turn off my smart firewall, and still was not able to deploy. I even tried to click on the link in Reporting Service Configuration Manager and the web browser still said I did not have required permissions.

Appreciate any additional feedback you might be able to provide.

Thanks

Hi Clayton,

There are couple of settings that we have to enable in our IE browser to make it work.
