SSRS/Sharepoint Integration Storing Password

Sharepoint 2013 & SSRS 2012 integrated mode

Created a shared DataSource connection AND selected options to Store an ID and Password.

Every time I open the data connection, the password is still stored and has successful test.

Deployed reports using that data connection work and run successfully.

However, we are establishing a self service environment and when a user tries to build a Report Builder report and uses that shared data source from sharepoint, they are always prompted to put in the password for the user name.

If the credentials are stored, why is a user prompted for the password on building their own reports with that data source?

Is this standard functionality, if so, any options (other than using windows authentication) to get around this so the pw to the generic account doesn't have to be given out?  Or is there something wrong with the configuration, a box that needs to be checked that would eliminate this?

Thanks,

JB

Hi jdb09,

According to your description, you created a shared data source with stored credential, the report works fine after deployed to report manager. When users tried to create report use the shared data source with report builder, they are prompt to type user name and password.

After we created a shared data source with stored credential, credentials are stored in reversible encryption in the report server database. We can specify one set of stored credentials for each data source used in a report. The credentials we provide retrieve the same data for every user who runs the report.

Data source credentials are used to make a data connection from Report Builder to the external data source, or to preview a report that is configured to prompt for credentials. Credentials that we enter in this dialog box are not stored on the report server and are not available for use by other users. Report Builder caches the credentials during the report editing session so that we do not need to enter them every time we run the query or preview the report.

As a workaround, for shared data sources, use the Save my password option to save the credentials locally with your user settings on your computer. Report Builder uses the saved credentials every time a connection is made to the corresponding external data source.

For detail information about Specify Credentials in Report Builder, please refer to the following document:
