Hello, if you try to create your own service use sc.exe: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hello, In addition to Meinolf. Syntax and Examples: sc start/stop xxx We can use “sc start xxx” to start the specified service, and use “sc stop xxx ” to stop the specified service. sc create/delete “sc.exe” can also be used to create and delete services. If you want to create a new service, you can use the “create ” commanded offered by the sc.exe tool. Before running this command, you need to provide the following minimum information: Service Name : A single word to name the new service. Binary Path : The path name where the executable program for new service is located. Please type “sc create” for detailed usage instruction. Again, there is a space after “binPath=” and “DisplayName=”. C:\>sc create ApacheService binPath= “C:\local\apache\bin\httpd.exe -k runservice” DisplayName= “Apache Server” [SC] CreateService SUCCESS C:\>sc start ApacheService … C:\>sc delete ApacheService [SC] DeleteService SUCCESS sc config Command “sc config ” can be used to modify the specified service entry in the registry and service database. You can change the service’s type, start, error, binPath, etc. Please type “sc config” for its detailed usage instruction. C:\>sc config testService type= share start= auto [SC] ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS Thanks

Hi, Thanks for posting here. Based on my knowledge that SRVANY.EXE is not applied to Windows server 2008 R2. If you want to create user defined service , sc.exe is the right way. Thanks. Yes Meniolf and Tiger are correct SRVANY.EXE is deprected command in windows 2008. In case if you need more assistance on creating user defined service then you may look at the kb article which has good information http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192/en-ushttp://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hi. Unfortunately SRVANY is not really supported on recent versions of Windows, although the binary from the 2003 resource kit will work fine on Windows 2008 R2 if your needs are basic. Note however that SC is NOT a replacement for SRVANY! SC will help you create/install a service, but it will not allow you to run a regular, non-service executable as a Windows Service like srvany.exe will. This page describes the SC command line switches . If you are considering using SRVANY in a professional environment, please be sure to review our page comparing SRVANY.EXE to our run-as-a-service product, AlwaysUp . You want to pay attention to the areas where SRVANY may fall short... Good luck!
