SQL Server 2012 Mirroring with Witness Support on Standard Edition

Dear All,

Is it supported to use Witness Server on SQL Server 2012 mirroring with Standard edition license?

We have configured 2 SQL Server 2012 Standard edition mirroring. When we tried to use Witness Server with SQL Server 2012 Express edition, it failed to connect with Witness server. All servers are on the same domain and the same subnet. No firewall on network on OS applied. Netstat result on Witness server always displays TIME_WAIT status on port TCP 5022.

Hence, mirroring setting only support no automatic failover between those two SQL Servers.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Automatic Failover (witness configuration) is supported in SQL Server Std edition mirroring setup. Are you following the below steps to add the witness server?

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365603(v=sql.110).aspx

From your post it seems that you have some connectivity issues and cant connect to your witness server during witness configuration wizard, can you connect to your SQL Express outside of mirroring configuration from both partner and principal?

You can use express edition as a witness server, there is no issue about it. It seems error is related to your configuration. Can you please post the error
