SQL Azure - FullText Indexes

Hi,

I read that SQL Azure wouldn't support FullText Indexes in it's initial release, but that was in a post back from 2009. I was wondering if SQL Azure now supports FullText indexes, it's the only thing preventing us form porting across our infrastructure to Azure.

If the answer is no, then are there any plans to implement this? Do Microsoft have a publicly available list of planned features and when they would be implemented by?

Many Thanks,
Ady

Adrian,

what i do know is that a lot of people want fulltext indexes but as far as i know it's not there (yet).

The roadmap for Microsoft's cloud offerings is not really available since they need to be flexible and change plans when they want to. Since it's cloud you can innovate constantly.

regards,

Riccardo

Although SQL Azure is not supporting Full-Text-Index, there's actually an alternative to do full-text-index using Lucene.NET with Blob Storage http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/AzureDirectory

Hi Adrian,

I am part of the Microsoft product group within the SQL organization.  It would be great to better understand your scenario and needs in this area (and anyone else on this thread who is interested in this feature). Would you be up for a brief chat? My email is Liam.Cavanagh <at> Microsoft<dot>com

It's been a while but in my case we are using a third party CMS product that we want to host databases for in Azure. At first for distributed development but later there is a production application.  Unfortunately, the database includes fulltext and so we can't load it. We will have to make other plans that don't include this option. Fortunately there are plenty of cloud options that do support it.
