SQL 2014 backup with Symantec Backup Exec 2014

Hi,

SQL server 2014 is has the service  started with gMSA (group Managed Service Account).  My question is, can Backup Exec 2014 backup the database with the gMSA account?   OS is Windows 2012 R2 in a 2012 AD domain.

Thanks.

Hi,

Yes ofcourse it can backup you need to read the document which comes with this backup exe and look what permissions are required. Give that permissions and yes it can run it.

if you want to restrict account with limited permissions create a separate account for backup.exe tool

Hi KAKueh,

Microsoft cannot make any representations regarding the quality, safety, or suitability of the third party tools. For Backup Exec 2014  issues, please post this question in the Symantec forums for suggestions.

In addition, as described in the following article, it is not supported to use Group Managed Service Accounts to run SQL Server Services, I recommend you use supported accounts instead. There is a similar thread for your reference.
