Since installing the client tools for SQL 08 R2 on my laptop, I am running into the following error when trying to open a step within a SQL job:

FIXED ...

Traverse to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\binn directory and run the following from the command:

REGSVR32.EXE dts.dll

Hey.

I'm having the same problem but I cannot fix it as mentioned in your post.

I'm getting below error when trying to register the dll

the module "dts.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failer with error code 0x80070005

Any ideas?

To Mediterranean: I had the same error code 0x80070005 on Windows 7. To fix it run your console window as an administrator when registering the dll and it will work.
