SQL2008R2 - SQL2012 upgrade

I need to do an in place upgrade of SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL2012 (running on Windows 2008 Server)

The SQL2008 R2 is Datacentre edition but although upgrade advisor gave me the all clear, after change control and spending all day today upgrading it failed on one item which seems like it suggests the edition is not compatible.

I believe the version I am trying to upgrade to is SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition as I was told there is no DataCentre edition available anymore.

Would appreciate if somebody could advise what edition I should be upgrading to make this possible.

Hi there,

I dont think so you can do the in-place upgrade with sql 2008 R2 Data-centre Edition to SQL 2012 Standard Edition....

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 Datacenter to SQL Server 2012 Enterprise or SQL Server 2012 Business Intelligence is possible.... please refer the below link for supported editions from sql 2008 R2....

Note :- you can do the side by side to any sql 2012 editions...

SQl 2012 on windows 2008 have some prerequirements. Windows service pack 3.5, 4.0 is required. other wise your installation will fail.

Try this in your test environment first.

If it i snot possible then you need to manually migrate the server.
