SPLA (Web and DataCenter)
Hello,
I was looking to get a standard 2008 SPLA licence but it seems that in Win 2008 there is only available the web edition and the datacenter edition. The price diference between the 2 is HUGE.
The server will only run MDaemon e-mail server.
Will Web edition be enought for that? I have read somewhere that in this edition you cannot install external programs.
Also the computer has 2 cpu's; do I need 2 spla licences?
Thanks,

Here you'll find more information about SPLA: http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/programs/spla/default.mspx
It's either per user or per cpu licensing, so two cpu's = two licenses.
Don't know it any other editions than web and datacenter will be available, someone from MSFT will have to clarify that.

Thanks for the reply; then the licence cost has gone up a lot for me.
2 datacenter licences are not cheap at all.
Also I think win 2003 spla has been discontinued.
Best Regards.
