Hi, Please try to perform an In-Place upgrade to repair the system and install Service Pack 1 again. In-Place upgrade ============= 1. Start the computer. 2. Insert the Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD in the computer's DVD drive after computer starts. 3. Select one of the following procedures: • If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the "Install now" screen appears. Click "Install now". • If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps: a. Click Start, type Drive:\setup.exe in the Search Bar, and then click OK. Note: Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive. b. Click Install now. 4. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen, click Upgrade to repair Windows Server 2008 R2. Note: If the Upgrade is disabled, please do not click Custom which will reinstall Windows Server 2008 R2. Regards, Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

I'm sorry, but that is simply not an acceptable way to correct my problem. This is a domain controller, I am not going to do something like that to my server. It's also not really a "fix," it's a punt. I was able to fix this myself. In my CBS.LOG file I searched "ERROR_NOT_FOUND" and eventually made it down to a line that talked about WVID.DLL failing to uninstall, which was part of a Windows Update. I found the update, uninstalled, rebooted, and installed the SP. This is the second time this exact problem has happened, first time someone from MS in the SP1 RC forum showed me how to fix. My first experience is documented here: http://blog.subvertallmedia.com/2011/02/18/windows-7server-2008-r2-sp1-install-woes/.
