Yes and No. In-place upgrading is a solvable problem One of Exchange Server 2007's prerequisits isPowershell 1.0 When Windows Server 2003 (R2) is installed with PowerShell 1.0 it cannot be upgraded in-place to Windows Server 2008. Transitioning however is not a problem. You can add a Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller to your existing Active Directory domain and you can install a Windows Server 2008 box with Exchange Server 2007 SP1 on to it. After moving your users mailboxes, your Active Directory FSMO roles and any applications residing on the old servers, you can demote the Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller(s) and turn the Windows Server 2003 boxes off. More information here. Single Label Domains are a solvable problem For the Single Label Domain stuff and Exchange Server 2007 SP1 there's an update that will allow you to install Exchange 2007 SP1 into a Single-label named domains. Note: Please note Single Label Domain configurations with Exchange Server 2007 are not a recommended configuration, not fully tested anddeprecated in the next version of Exchange Server.

Hello, There are several points you should take into consideration. 1. Only Exchange 2007 SP1 is supported on Windows Server 2008. The release to manufacturing (RTM) version of Exchange 2007 cannot be installed on Windows Server 2008. However, Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1 will be supported for installation on Windows Server 2008. While you cannot install Exchange 2007 RTM on Windows Server 2008, Exchange 2007 RTM will be supported with Windows Server 2008 RTM domain controllers. 2. It is strongly not recommended to deploy Exchange server in single-label domain environment. 3. Its not easy to rename the name of the domain where Exchange server is deployed. 4. An in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2003 R2 to Windows Server 2008 with Exchange 2007 installed is not supported. This might result in some unexpected and critical problems. To deploy Exchange 2007 SP1 on Windows Server 2008, you must install Windows Server 2008 on a computer that does not have Exchange installed, and then install Exchange 2007 SP1. The recommended solution is to build a new domain on a brand new Windows Server 2008 box and then install Exchange 2007 SP1 in this new domain. After that, please create tuste relationship between this new domain and your current one. And then, perform a migration to migrate all AD objects and Exchange server from old domain to the new one.
