SCOM Project Plan

Hi

I have been tasked with managing a SCOM implementation and configuration for my company.  However I need to be able to define what skillset is required and how long it is required for.  Currently we have very little SCOM expertise and they are not available to asist in building the baseline plan.  Does anyone have a MS Project plan that they are able and willing to share to give me a starting point.  Anything would be appreciated.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Tony

How big is your environment? How many servers will you monitor? How many remote sites will you monitor? Any systems in untrusted domains? Clustered RMS? Standing up SCOM can be easy, it's a very, very steep learning curve in learning how to configure it, modify monitors, create new ones, etc. To deploy, you'll need a Windows server guru and possibly a SQL server admin.

Also note that your project plan doesn't count the day-to-day maintenance & support. If you have a big, complex environment (like ours with 4000 agents in 20 locations and a bunch of untrusted domains), there are 2 people (including myself) that directly support SCOM.

Hi Nicholas

Many thanks for your prompt response.

Basically I no idea what we have currently.  What I need initially (if possible) is a baseline plan showing the areas that need to be addressed and in what order and I can expand the plan accoridngly as I get more information.  We do have SCOM SME resource but it is currently unavailable to me.  What I need initially is to produce a Project Plan in the first instance which I can then use as a baseline for my initial planning discussions.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Tony,

Did you ever find a  baseline Project Plan? I need to do the same and don't really know where to start.

Thanks!
