SCOM 2012 R2 Deployment question

Hi All,

We are planning a SCOM 2012 R2 deployment for our 450 Exchange and Support servers monitoring + 20 SNMP Network device as well.

We are planning to go with VM's. Now my concern is can we install the SQL Server in a VM ? Is it recommended to install a Stand alone SQL 2012 SP1 in a VM ?

Is there any known performance issue if i host the Ops manager, Ops manager DW & Temp DB inside a VM disk such as a .VMDK or Hyper V virtual disk ?

Hello,

It is recommended to store both databases on a directly attached physical hard drive, and not on a virtual disk.

You can check hardware requirements here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn249696.aspx

Hi Abdul,

MS recommends due to performance issues you need to Place the Databases on a Physical drive and not a Virual Hard disk.

So Even if you are installing SQL on a VM i would suggest you place all the Databases on a Physical disk and not a virtual disk.
