SCOM 2012 R2 - Console doesn't show UR6 version after upgrade, shows RTM version instead

Hello Experts,

I need your opinion on the SCOM 2012 R2 UR6 upgarde. I had SCOM 2012 R2 RTM version, downloaded and installed UR6, following the exact order, executing the scripts, etc.,etc.Everything went smooth, without any errors.
My concern is that when i open the SCOM console, under Help, About, I still see the following:

Product ID:
Product version: 7.1.10226.0 (Eval)

I read the artcle from Kevin Holman:

UR6 for SCOM 2012 R2 Step by Step
http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2015/05/11/ur6-for-scom-2012-r2-step-by-step.aspx

I checked all the versions like he is advising and they are fine (like described in the article). Still what bothers me is this strange product version in the help. Can you please help me further?

Thanks in advance.

BR,

Tony

Hi,

Did you update the Console with UR6?

Hi,

thanks for your time. I did update the console. I have it now only on one Management Server and on it I've installed both updates - the one for the MS and the one for the console: KB3051169-AMD64-ENU-Console.
I also see the file versions of the follwoing files, like stated in the article from Kevin Holman (7.1.10226.1064)

In the Event Viewer, under Application I see the Event with the following description:

"Product: System Center Operations Manager 2012 Console - Update 'System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager UR6 Update Patch' installed successfully."

Should really the console (Help-About) show the newer build?

Thanks!

Tony

Hi,

I did the install from an elevated prompt :(
If I redo the install, do I have to run the KB3051169-AMD64-Server package again on all MS or can I redo the install only of the console?
Do I have to execute the SQL scripts again?

I did a check of the version with an SQL query and it says the same: 7.1.10226.0

Thanks again!

Hi,

I have found very interesting information: It seems that the Help-About section is not being updated when you install a UR. The only way to confirm is to check the file versions, as I already did. Even the SQL query isn't showing the UR build information. Here is the post I found:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/6562e5b1-4067-4719-82ef-8d85a3b89b22/how-to-confirm-the-scom-2012-r2-being-upgraded-to-ru4?forum=operationsmanagergeneral

Can someone confirm this?

Thanks,

BR

Is this a production environment? If so, your bigger concern might be that it still states EVAL. This will expire 6 months after install and the SDK services stops ...

https://marthijnvanrheenen.wordpress.com/2013/03/12/opsmgr-2012-evaluation-period-expired-how-do-i-activate/

My system states 7.1.10226.1090 after applying UR 7.

Hi Graham,

very, very strange. Can it be that this "issue" has been fixed with UR7 and that is why your product version is being updated?
Do you know someone, who has UR6 and could check the console Help -> About?

Thanks for the reminder regarding the Eval version, I am now in the middle of PoC, but I will install the license key when I am finished with the configurations of the MPs.Regards,

Tony

I've UR5 on one console and that shows .0 so it might well be something that has changed with UR7. I don't check the console to be honest (just check the file version on the file itself).

Thnaks Graham,

I will try to find an env with UR6 just to be sure, that everything is Ok. My file versions are up to date, so I will not worry anymore.

Cheers,

Tony

Hi Graham,

I think we have the answer. As per

http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2015/08/17/ur7-for-scom-2012-r2-step-by-step.aspx

the update of the console includes an .exe file for the console itself.

So maybe, this is the clue to what is going on.

Cheers,

Tony
