SCOM 2012 Monitoring Through SCOM 2007 R2 Agent

Hi

Since we can't monitor the SCCM and SCSM 2010 (or 2012) using SCOM 2012 agent, I was wondering if we can use SCOM 2007 R2 agent to connect to SCOM 2012 management server and do the job.

Is this feasible? In other words, can we install SCOM 2007 R2 agent manually and point it to SCOM 2012 management server? Does it work?

BTW, I know agentless monitoring is the solution, the question just came out of curiosity!

There is a management pack to monitor Config Manager 2012 here and ServiceMgr 2012 here. There is a config Manager 2007 management pack too. Please search on the pinpoint portal.

Hope that answers your question

Hi,

A OpsMgr 2007 agent can not communicate with a OpsMgr 2012 management group. A 2012 agent can communicate with a 2007 management group.
When you install SP1 for SCSM 2012 an OpsMgr 2012 SP 1 agent is included.

Hope this helps,

Agree with Marthijn van Rheenen, the only thing you need is to configure SCOM agent via Control Panel or registry.

Thanks for your answers, yet I doubt this solution would be applicable to SCSM 2010 SP1 (CU6) [As mentioned in the first post], since there is no agent installed in there and yet the binaries are the same.

Would you please guide me how to apply your solution on a computer running SCSM 2010 SP1?

We have widely used the SCSM 2010 SP1 and there is no way to replace the product.

Even when the SCSM 2010 console is installed on a client PC, we can't install the SCOM 2012 console!

Thanks in a

Hi,

I think this a pretty simplke answer: You can't.
You will need to upgrade to SCSM2012 SP1

Hello,

I have SCSM 2012 SP1 (which includes a SCOM Agent 2012 ?!!)installed on a server with an agent 7.0.9532.0

Can I us this agent this agent to monitor the server with SCOM 2007? Any recommendations.

As I saw an HealthService running it should be the SCOM agent 2012 should it be uninstalled first or could I downgrade it by a manul installation of SCOM 2007 Agent?

Thanks,

Probably you can,

go to control panel and in the SCOM agent, add the address of SCOM 2007 as well.
