SBS 2008 - Add Group crashes after Windows Update
We are running an SBS 2008 server as a domain controller and exchange 2007 server.
We had previously disabled Sharepoint through Central Administration by selecting 'disable' on each of the Sharepoint services.
Yesterday we applied some Windows updates, one of which included Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 sp2.Since applying the updates, I receive an error when attempting to execute the "Add a new Group" function in Windows SBS Console.The error reads:
Windows SBS 2008 Add Group Wizard has stopped working
Details:
Description:
Stopped working
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: CLR20r3
Problem Signature 01: addgroup.exe
Problem Signature 02: 6.0.5601.0
Problem Signature 03: 48a225fe
Problem Signature 04: Microsoft.SharePoint
Problem Signature 05: 12.0.0.0
Problem Signature 06: 49941f96
Problem Signature 07: 19b8
Problem Signature 08: a4
Problem Signature 09: System.InvalidOperationException
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.305.9
Locale ID: 3081
After some searching, and investigating the issue, it appears to be related to the Sharepoint update. Other people have had issues with Sharepoint not installing properly, so I ran the following, which installed successfully with no issues: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web server extensions\12\BIN\psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force
We are at a point now where we suspect it has to do with Sharepoint, however I cannot enable Sharepoint again. It does not appear in IIS. When I run Sharepoint 3.0 Central Administration from Administrative Tools, it brings me to a companyweb site that does not resolve. When I run Sharepoint Products & Technologies Wizard from Administrative Tools, it launches but then generates the following error, providing an option to Ignore or Quit. If I Ignore, it disappears until I press 'Next', then reappears with the same error:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
Reading related articles, it appears the last step may be to ensure my Sharepoint websites are active and accessible, but since we have this disabled, we cannot do it.All of the Sharepoint services are started.
I am looking for any assistance in either getting Sharepoint re-enabled, or merely fixing the Add a new Group function of the SBS Console.
