SBS 2003 Reinstallation and CALs
Hi! We have a server running under SBS 2003 with 15 CALs ( We purchased 10 of them) but we have many problems with it so we want to reinstall the server from scratch. Can we use the same activation code to activate the new server? And how do we get the15 CALs back afterwards? For now we saved all our datas on another server which is also running under SBS 2003. At first we wanted to transfer the CALs from the first server to this one and after reinstalling the first one, transfer them back but we don't know if it's possible as we saw on the net that we could only do one transfer over 90 days... And if possible, can someone tell us how to do it? Thanks in advance for all the answers!

The SBS forum is the place to be for this one, but while you're here, I'll answer some of your questions: 1. If you have an OEM licence, you can re-install onto the same physical box, but not on a new one. If you have a Volume Licence, contact your Microsoft vendor for advice. 2. You should have the CALS in paper format. If not, note the keys from Licencing Manager before you kill the box. 3. You talk about transferring, which means migration. You cannot migrate using OEM CALs. And the grace period is 21 days, not 90. Also, there is no approved 'migration path' from SBS2003 to SBS2003.

Syed Kkairuddin, the link you put isn't working anymore... And I am sorry if I didn't put on the right thread. For now, we did a back up of our licenses on an usb key but I am not sure of what type of file we have to save the back up under... We saw on a site, that we have to put .bkp but I am not sure. So we are thinking of reinstalling our server and calling microsoft to activate the server in order to do it with the same license as before and then restore the CALs with the "Restore Licenses" on server management by importing the back up file. Anyone know if that would work? Thanks!
