I know that there are several payed options to connect to SAP R/3. BUt do you know any free way to connect to SAP R/3 from SSIS?

It is part of the so called feature pack and it is available for newer SQL Server versions as well. I will leave up to you to do further research and find the correct download links.

Check this, this and this. I suspect you are right - the Microsoft solution now requires full BizTalk license which is a shame. This was not the case back in 2005 . I think the most cost-efficient solution is to purchase license from Theobald Software. Their SAP SSIS adapters are the de-facto standard.
