Running a service under Windows Server 2000 OS
Our developer wrote a trivial service and installed it on our server running Windows Server 2000. It hangs. The "OnStart" doesn't seem to fire.
The same service (written in .net, C#) will run properly under Windows XP.
Is there something particular that one must do in Windows 2000? Thanks.

C#.... isn't that dependent on having the correct .NET framework installed on the computer. Possibly not installed on the Windows 2000 Server?Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

as JM mentioned, it's hightly probably you dont have the correct framework version installed.
The app log should indicate a framework loading issue.
btw, you do realise Server 2000 is out off support? its possible you may not be able to install the framework

Hi,
First of all, as you may know, Windows Server 2000 is out of support life cycle.
By the way,
according to the description, you have an own developed service, so the issue seems to be related to coding development. As we mainly focus on the General question about Windows
Server system and here is not the best support resource for coding development, it is recommend you to get further support in the corresponding community so that you can get the most qualified pool of respondents. Thanks for your understanding.
For your convenience, I have list the related link as followed.
