Running Window XP Application Programs with Window 2008 Standard Edition Server
I have a number of Window XP application programs which I am trying to run with Window 2008 Standard Edition Server. I ran into two problems.
First Problem --
I have open two vps accounts with two service providers, let us call vps-A with provider A and vps-B with provider B.
For both VPS accounts, they have, at my request, installed Window 2008 32 bit server (Standard Edition). With VPS-A account, I could not install my application programs. However, with VPS-B account, I had no problems installing a number of my Window XP applications,
and I was able to run the applications.
I am wondering whether any members have encounter similar problems and were able to resolve them.
By the way, with VPS-A account, I tried to run, and failed, by selecting "Window XP and Window 2003" compatibility choices on the Compatibility tab of Properties dialog box.
Second Problem -
For VPS-B account, after I installed my application program, I was able to run the program by clicking the exe file using Window explorer.
Then, I tried to run the same program in another way. I specify "Run a specific program when a user logs on" in the Environment tab of the User Account Properties dialog box. After initial start (i.e. seeing images of my application logo), program stops
working. Clicking on the info tab, I see the following:(

I would appreciate suggestions what to do next.

The successful one may have UAC disabled.

Hello,
I would agree with Dave.
This may be due to UAC. In fact, there is many XP applications which does not support UAC mode.
However, you can use Windows 7 with XP Mode to solve the current compatibility issues: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx/

I had two problems. I am assuming your suggestion is for the first problem.
I disable UAC, and I was able to do the installation in the VPS-A account. For one application, the installation was perfect, but for the another installation, I had some problems setting up the database for Paradox. However, I was able to get around the
problem.
Thanks a lot.
Now for the second problem. For the VPS-B account, all the applications run when sign in as an administrator but will not run when sign in as a user. I disabled the UAC for this vps, and still ran into this kernl32.dll fault. I would appreciate suggestions
as to why I can run the application in a User Account.
I have the same problem running the applications in the VPS-A account as a user but not as a administrator.
Would greatly appreciate your help. I think I will re post this problem as a separate question.

This link still leads to this page:Maintaining AppLocker Policies. I do not think this applies to my situation
My application has two parts, 1. is to make calculations and 2. is to search a database. It is function 2 which I can not run as a user. This is some how related to the database engine set up.
At any rate I have been able to run both as a user if I set Administrator privilege for the user. This is still a secure solution, I believe, as account automatically logs off when the user close the application.
David, I want to thank you again for your help.
