Run menu very slow response
Hello, In our environment we have 2 terminal servers running Server 2003 R2 (4GB RAM Dual core 2.4GHZ processors). We have always had a problem where the Start --> Run menu is extremely slow when typing in commands, once the programs are running, it is perfectly fine. Memory and CPU are both fine on the server and it doesnt seem to matter how many people are on the server. Any ideas?

Hi, Please provide us more information. Does the issue occur on two terminal servers? I noticed that you said “We have always had a problem”, do you mean the issue began to occur after installing the server? Does the issue occur when running certain commands or all the commands? How about launch CMD, notepad (the build-in Windows programs)? If you were not attempting to launch build-in programs, please let us know what programs they are and how you lunch them? What is the result if you found the shortcut or .exe or .msc file to open the programs? When the issue occurs, no error, you just need to wait for several seconds to let the programs open? When wait, please open Task Manager and check CPU\Memory usage. Any clues? Please also check whether the issue occurs in Clean Boot mode. 1. Click "Start", click “Run” and type "msconfig" to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click Disable All (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Restart your computer. If the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the box and click "OK". 5. Launch the programs as a test. Any progress? > the Start --> Run menu is extremely slow when typing in commands, once the programs are running, it is perfectly fine. Is it the same case when you check through server console session (jsut try to isolate if it's a TS issue or not)? If the slowness is only during the first time after connecting to the server, probably some programs still runnning in background causing these delays. what's the cursor status during the delay? and how long is it taking?
