Routing and Remote Access service keeps starting
I have Windows Server 2008. I have disabled "Routing and Remote Access" service. BUT hours later, something over rides my disabled setting and starts "Routing and Remote Access" service again. I then find multiple connections from this Windows Server 2008 in my DHCP. I need help figuring out how to disable routing and remote access.

Honu, have you restarted server recently. If the service's startup type is automatic, it will start the service automatically. Please check recovery tab under service's property window. recovery tab will restart the service automatically after certain time.

If stop the service, then set the Startup type to Disabled and Recover is set to Take No Action and hit apply, the service will stop running. But an hour later something will over write the Startup type to Automatic and restart the service.

If stop the service, then set the Startup type to Disabled and Recover is set to Take No Action and hit apply, the service will stop running. But an hour later something will over write the Startup type to Automatic and restart the service. Setup a trigger to send you an email or batch script a message to your system when that service is started. So that you can be notified when its active again. Then review the logs to see who or what might be restarting that service. Also... check your firewall to see what ports are open on that system. You may want to reinstall the OS on that system to be on the safe side if it keeps mysteriously restarting and changing settings like that.
