Roaming profile won't load unless local admin
What type of errors are you seeing in the security event log? Have you had a user logon with the problem and then manually tried browsing to the folder in question? -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCITP: Enterprise Administrator MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, Vista, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 http://www.pbbergs.com Twitter @pbbergs http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/paulbergson Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup. It seems that you have used wrong procedure. How did you migrate servers and users? Servers (from one hardware to new hardvare), profiles, roaming,...etc.

Milos, It was more of a move than a migration. The profile folder was copied over and then the users were all re-created manually and the profile path set to the new copied folder. It workied fine for a while, then a few users started getting this problem.

I have migrated a client from server 2003 to 2008 R2 taking over pre-configured profiles. All clients are running XP SP2. All was working well until users started getting access denied errors loading their roaming profiles. Did the usual of checking permission on the profile folder on the server and all seemed fine. Only way I could get the user's profile to load was to give them local admin rights to their PC. They log back on, profile loads no problem. This is only happening on a few PCs, but once the problem occurs it is the only way I can find to get them going again. Client isn't happy with users having local admin rights, but I can't figure out the solution. Any clues would be appreciated.

Hi, I would like to suggest you perform the following troubleshooting suggestions: Please verify and correct the ownership, share and NTFS permission of the roaming profile on the file server. If it does not work, you may also perform the following steps: 1. Log on to the system by using an administrative user account other than the user account that is experiencing the problem. 2. Back up all data in the current user's profile folder if the profile folder still exists, and then delete the profile folder. By default, the profile resides in the following location: %SystemDrive%\Users\UserName 3. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 4. Locate the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList 5. Under the ProfileList subkey, delete the subkey that is named SID.bak. Note: SID is a placeholder for the security identifier (SID) of the user account that is experiencing the problem. The SID.bak subkey should contain a ProfileImagePath registry entry that points to the original profile folder of the user account that is experiencing the problem. 6. Exit Registry Editor. 7. Log off the system. 8. Log on to the system again. After you log on to the system, the profile folder is re-created. If the issue persists, please also delete the roaming profile on the file server and re-create it to check the result.
