Roaming Profile Local Settings Application Problem
I have some software which copies files to the folder: c:\Documents & Settings\<User ID>\Local Settings\AppsThis folder is NOT copied as part of the roaming profile and should not be as it is too big (30-40MB)However, the folder gets overwritten each time the user logs on which means the client software is lost and has to be re-installed. We need the files to be retained on the machine after the user logs off.Regards,Spooter

You can use a GPO toexclude folders that are normally included in the user's profile. If implemented, the folders need not be stored by the network server on which the profile resides, and do not follow users to other computers. You can add the folder used by the software to the excluded folders under the GPO which you apply to your users.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814592(Windows 2003)http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315415 (Windows 2000)Regards,Salvador Manaois III C|EH MCSE MCSA MCITP | Enterprise/Server Admin Bytes & Badz : http://badzmanaois.blogspot.com/

Im not sure if this answer resolves the problem but may be wrong?Thec:\Documents & Settings\<User ID>\Local Settings\Apps folder is already a folder which doesnt get copied back to the server? Thats not the issue. The issue is that the software saves files in the Local Settings folder and this folder gets overwritten each time the user logs in.Spooter

You have to check with your software vendor if you are able to change this behaviour of the application. It could be that there is a configurable setting (prolly through a .ini or config file or via a registry tweak/hack) to define where the application saves those files you have mentioned which are being saved under the user's profile.Regards,Salvador Manaois IIIC|EH CIWA MCSE MCSA MCITP|Server/Enterprise AdminBytes & Badz : http://badzmanaois.blogspot.com
