Revert From Raid 1 to single disk
Hi I have a W2k server with RAID 1. One of the drives died. As this is a backup server, I am thinking of reverting it back to a single drive. How do I do it? It is not bootable now. Help and advice appreciated. Many thanks in advance Richard

Hi Richard, It is an absolute product there is no support. I suggest you to migrate the OS to latest version of windows server 2008 R2. Check the below article. Hope this will help you. As advised by MYousufAli, it is recommended to upgrade to new version with proper support and udpates. If you insist to stay with W2K server, you have the option of installing from scratch. If you had the RAID configured at hardware level, you have to fix it before the installation process. Clear the RAID and configure this available disk as standalone partition. Once everything is working, you can start the new installation and it will be configured as a single disk. If you configured the RAID from within the OS and one of the disk is failed, you have to remove the faulty disk and mark the available disk as active. Then you can reinstall on this disk as stand alone. The recommendation: Do not install any mission critical server on stand alone disks and always use the latest versions to get proper support. Hope this helps.Imran

Dear Imran Many thanks for taking time to reply. Yes, it is a hardware raid. One of my friends suggest me to break the raid in the bios, without going into details. Do I have to reinstall the server to break the raid? The server is now used as a data backup so I will just stick with it first. Many thanks again for your advice and help. Richard
