Result of dfsutil.exe
Hello, I am checking for a DFS performance issue for my company. We have 3 DCs at head office and 1 DC at each 5 branch offices, all of them are Windows Server 2008 with SP2 and activated as DFS root. I have run a command dfsutil.exe /pktinfo on a client (Windows XP SP3) at head office and one part of the result is below. Entry: \domain\dfs ShortEntry: \domain\dfs Expires in 60 seconds UseCount: 10 Type:0x8081 ( REFERRAL_SVC DFS FAILBACK_ENABLED ) 0:[\HQ-DC1\dfs] State:0x109 ( TARGETSET ) 1:[\HQ-DC2\dfs] State:0x19 ( ACTIVE ) 2:[\HQ-DC3\dfs] State:0x09 ( ) 3:[\BRANCH1-DC1\dfs] State:0x109 ( TARGETSET ) 4:[\BRANCH2-DC1\dfs] State:0x09 ( ) 5:[\BRANCH3-DC1\dfs] State:0x09 ( ) 6:[\BRANCH4-DC1\dfs] State:0x09 ( ) 7:[\BRANCH5-DC1\dfs] State:0x109 ( TARGETSET ) Entry: \domain.fqdn.net\DFS ShortEntry: \domain.fqdn.net\DFS Expires in 60 seconds UseCount: 2 Type:0x8081 ( REFERRAL_SVC DFS FAILBACK_ENABLED ) 0:[\HQ-DC2\dfs] State:0x119 ( ACTIVE TARGETSET ) 1:[\HQ-DC1\dfs] State:0x09 ( ) 2:[\HQ-DC3\dfs] State:0x09 ( ) 3:[\BRANCH4-DC1\dfs] State:0x109 ( TARGETSET ) 4:[\BRANCH3-DC1\dfs] State:0x09 ( ) 5:[\BRANCH2-DC1\dfs] State:0x09 ( ) 6:[\BRANCH1-DC1\dfs] State:0x09 ( ) 7:[\BRANCH5-DC1\dfs] State:0x109 ( TARGETSET ) My client seem to be connected to a correct DFS root server (HQ-DC2) for both NETBIOS and FQDN name but I don't understand why DC in branch1, branch5 or branch4 also have status "0x109 (targetset)" and another DC have status "0x09". Is this mean my client in head office can be connected to these DFS root server? Where can I find a definition of this DFS status? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank!

Hello Suriya, For early replies you can seek DFS queries in concerning "File Services and Storage forum":http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverfiles/threads Anyways, DFS clients connect to out-of-site link targets if IPv6 incorrectly disabled on DFS link target. So, I suggest you check this article to troubleshoot your issue:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2003961 Regards, Ravikumar P
