Restrict folder access - modify but NOT delete.

Hello,

I have a 2012 (not r2) server.    I have a shared folder.   I'd like to give people rights to open items and even edit them, create new items but NOT delete items.   Is this possible?  I've tried a ton of combinations for shared and security rights but still can't get it to work.   They can pretty much do just about anything or read only.  I haven't been able to restrict them from deleting items (they've created or others so it isn't an ownership thing).   My goal is to let them open an existing word or excel doc, edit it and save it to the same name but NEVER delete files.

Thanks

Modify has inherited delete. (For Office there is temp file created that is deleted when closing dokument.)

Try to modify your requirements.

Thanks - I do not know what you are suggesting - modify my requirements.

Hi,

It will create a temp file when open an Office file, and replace the original file with the temp file when you click Save.

Thus we cannot deny Delete permission on Office files or you will not able to edit.

I assume the purpose is to prevent users from deleting files by mistake. You should educate users for such mistake. In the meantime you can create backup or VSS snapshots so that you can able to restore an earlier version of a deleted file.
