Replace old network Windows 2000 PC
I just replaced an old networked Windows 2000 Professional PC with a new Windows 7 Professional PC. The PC was networked to a 2003 Server to a User and a Computer account. The old PC networked with no errors but the new PC networked to the 2003 Server to the same User and Computer aaccount gives errors. The errors indicate that the computer could not join. Access Denied. Computer "Computer Name" was created with a different set of credentials. What is the trouble and what can be done to reconnect to the same Computer and User Account. The account has a profile of a directory for files included to it.

If you are referring to a computer account, it sounds like the server is running Active Directory. You have two options in regards to the computer account. You can modify the permission on the object to allow the user of your choice to rejoin, or just join the Windows 7 to the domain using a domain admin account.Additionally, you can just delete the computer account, go back to the Win 7 computer, log in with a user that had the proper permissions and rights to join computers to the domain (domain admin will work) and join it back. The computer account will be automatically created by this process. No need to do anything with the user account. Once the computer is a member of the domain, just log on as that domain user. A new profile will be created on the Windows 7 PC.
