RenDom.Exe - Windows 7 Control Station ?
Can you use a Windows 7 machine as the RenDom.Exe "Control Station" ?
If not, what happens if you run RenDom on the PDC?
I do not have another machine running Windows Server to use as the "Control Station"
I am trying to rename a domain on a Windows 2008-R2 PDC for a new domain that is not yet in production - but there has been extensive configuration and license activations, so I don't want to do a complete reinstall...
Thanks!

Hi,
Although I am not sure if it works on a Windows 7 machine, considering the importance and the complexity of a Domain Rename operation, I would suggest using a supported Server OS for the control station.
Why not using a Server OS on a VM? You do not need to activate it to use as a Control Station.

Yes, I had preveiously read the 'official' notes on TechNet - but I was looking to see if anyone had tried Windows 7.
In the end, I took Turgay's advice and installed an unactivated copy of Server 2008 and used that for the process.Brian
