Remove WINS feature failed on windows server 2008 RODC

Hi all,

I have a little problem when removing WINS feature from our windows server 2008 rodc servers. What I tried is:

Using Server Manager - remove features - remove WINS. The process started - next, next and then required a reboot, unfortunately during the restart it showed something about re-configuring windows update or similar and at the end the removal process failed: "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer". I've checked the events logs but I don't see any error there. Does somebody have an idea?

Both servers are windows server 2008 Enterprise SP2 64bit with currently installed Server Roles: ADDS, DHCP,DNS,File Services, Web Server.

Hi,

Please see if you can decomminsion the WINS server.

And incase you are referring the DHCP WINDS scope, please see this thread:

If you're referring to the DHCP WINS scope or server option for DHCP clients, you simply remove DHCP Options 044 and 046.

Here's how to install WINS and configure the DHCP options. Just follow the reverse to remove the DHCP WINS Options:

If you are completely removing WINS from the environment, just take note of any apps that may need it, or if your folks rely on Network Neighborhood. For static machines, make sure you've removed the WINS server IP address from the NIC.
