Remote Desktop multiple login map drives only appear on the 1st log in
We are currently using a 2003 Server for Active Directory. When a user logs in for the first time the drives map correctly, however if they log in for a second session (while the first one is still up) the drives don't map for the second session.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hello,
make sure each machine in the domain use ONLY the domain DNS servers on the NIC. Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the DC/DNS server and also 2 machines where the problems exist.
This doesn't belong to user settings according to your description. If you use workstation OS higher then Windows 2000 then make sure to disable fast logon optimization:

First I'd like to say that I didn't set this up, I'm just trying to get it to work... Secondly this is a "test network" so all machines that are connecting to it are doing so while also connecting to the regular network (though the issue has just
been with Terminal Services as that is the only way we have been connecting to this network as of now). Though it is going through a seperate port in our firewall. Lastly the primary DNS is the top server while the secondary is a router so can't
do a ipconfig on that one .

Hello,
do NOT use the gefault gateway as DNS server, use only the domain DNS server. After changing this please run ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns and restart the netlogon service on the DC and reboot the workstation.
Keep in mind that there is no secondary DC, all DCs are the same differences are only the FSMO roles that are applied according to some rules. Also make sure that all DCs are GC and also DNS server and that all machines are configured to use them on
the NIC.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Thanks for the quick response, I'm still new to this 2008 System Admin thing. What exactally is the GC you are speaking of (Global Catalog Server?)...
Just to be sure I have this straight before I go making changes. Both servers should be DC's as well as Global Catalog and DNS Servers. Right now this is just a 3 server test network that we are using to help upgrade from VS6 to VS2010, so there
is lots of role sharing among the servers.

I haven't been able to get the DNS changed yet (though hopefully soon). However while waiting I was looking through the log files during the first log in I'm seeing a log that has "Starting Group Policy Drive Maps Extension Processing" and then 2
events up is the "Completed Group Policy Drive Maps Extension Processing in 78 milliseconds". For the next log in (same user just new session while that user is already logged in) there are only 2 entries total; "Group Policy received the notification
Logon from Winlogon for session 5" and "Group Policy received the notification StartShell from Winlogon for Sesson 5. This is vs the 34 or so log entries for the initial log in. Not sure how helpful this is, but figured I'd pass it along.

Hello,
GC Global catalog, correct. And yes in a domain you should make all DCs GC and also DNS server for redundancy.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Well at least I'm on the right track now... however as mentioned above I still have the initial problem.

Ok I have a possible solution for my issue, but would really like a second opinion on this...
in the Group Policy Manager -> User Configuration -> Preferences -> Windows Setting -> Drive Maps
If I use Replace as the Action and have the Reconnect check box checked it seems to work. Does this seem right?
