What we have: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2 Remote desktop enabled in remote admin mode, worked fine till today. What is not working now: Server was rebooted earlier this morning. After it came up remote desktop connections (even over LAN) do not work anymore, get a message "This computer cannot connect to the remote computer". All other services on the server function properly, I can connect to any of them (it's running some database services), I can ping or map a drive. I installed VNC on that server as we have to have some kind of remote connectivity and it works fine both across LAN and via the firewall (after I created the appropriate rule, of course). The Terminal Services service shows as started, event viewer the best I can tell doesn't complain about it. I tried chaging the rdp port to 7050 just thiking something might have grabbed the default 3389. After I reboot and run netstat -a it shows 7050 as "listening" but still get the same error message. Not sure what to even look for, there isn't really much that can go wrong with that component. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you Vassili

Hi your issue could be to do with Windows remote desktop having a secure and unsecure mode setting. Try going to Start > Run mstsc and press enter, then input the IP address of the system and try again. Martin

It just started working again! I am going to see if anyone else on the team made any changes or if now we want to try to revert back to the default port. Where can I check for secure/unsecure mode, I tried searching for that but don't see anything?
