Reinstallation of Desktop Experience fails on a Windows 2008 SP2 server
Hello,
I have been trying to reinstall the Desktop Experience feature on our Windows 2008 SP2 server but it always fails with the following error message: Attempt to install Desktop Experience failed with error code 0x8000FFFF.
I have read the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2500700 article, but that hasn't fixed my problem. I have also tried the solutions found here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsserver2008r2general/thread/ef2451e6-411c-44b3-9ab8-43afc88fbb7b
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which specific updates did you remove when attempting to resolve the issue?
What errors do you see in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log from the time of the Desktop Experience install failure?
You can also run Process Monitor during the install and then filter the output for Process Name is TrustedInstaller.exe and also Result is not Success to try and see where exactly it is failing.

Hi,
Please run System Update Readiness Tool to scan and repair the system files. If some corrupted files cannot be fixed, please try to replace them. For
more information, please refer to the following Microsoft articles:

CBS.log is complaining about 2378111 which is an update to media player.

Is 2378111 currently installed, or is that one that you had removed as a troubleshooting step?

I don't see that update as being currently installed and I haven't removed it either.
Could it be included in either SP1 or SP2?
