Hi All,

In sharepoint 2013 by default refiner count will consistant. After setting "TrimDuplicates" property as false, the result count and refiner count mismatch issue is resolved except for Task and Discussion refiners under Result Type refiner category.

Eg: when i search for a keyword the count of Task in Result Type refiner will be 6, but if i refine the results based on task then its count increases to 12. Same happens for Discussion as well.

Kindly help me on this.

I have done a test in my SharePoint 2013 and I can't reproduce your issue.

1. Add a standard search result web part to a page->Export the search result web part and save it on disk->Change to: "TrimDuplicates":false->Save the file and rename it as search result1, then upload it as a new web part in web part gallery.
2. Add a search result page in pages library->Delete the default search result web part->Add a new search result1 web part->Save the page.
3. Start a full crawl.

When i search for a keyword in the new search result page, the count of Task/Discussion in Result Type refiner will be ok.

Have you implement  the same steps with me? If not, Please offer the steps how do you set "TrimDuplicates" property as false.

Even i did the same except last step (Full Crawl).

What is the need in doing that?

Result count mismatch is happening with Tasks,Discussions and SharePoint Sites all are related to SharePoint items.

Kindly advice me on this.

I searched from the internet, it is a by designer behavior that refiner count mismatch of search results .

The solution is to disable TrimDuplicates.

I'm not sure of the exact formula, but here is a similar issue posts, you can take a look at:

Hi Lisa,

Even i saw this post before, but they have mentioned about Search Results count mismatch and not Refiner count.

Please let me know if you know the reason for refiner count mismatch.
