Reduce Domain user login time
We have around 100+ users in a single AD environment some of which use a local profile and others a roaming profile, the majority being XP users.
For file storage we have file shares setup so nothing other than applications and local profile data should be stored on a client PC.
We are finding that some users local profiles are getting rather large (around 2gb on some cases) and I would like to reduce these in the hope of reducing login times.
What use can I make of Windows tools to reduce profile sizes - I am thinking along the lines of quotas e.t.c
I do not wish to use a mandatory profile however as I would like the users to keep some of there saved settings such as internet favorites and desktop shortcuts but anything that really doesn't need to be saved can be scrapped to shave
a few mb's or perhaps even gb's!
thanks in advance, Chris

hello,
you may consider using a combination of local profiles and GPO's folder redirection.
by this way you will reduce amount of network activity and keep users data on you servers.

Hi,
Thanks for your posting.
According to your requirement we provide some recommended solutions for you.
1. Still use roaming profile for these XP users.
2. Use Folder Redirection function to redirect users’ desktop, documents, and favorites etc. to network locations. You can find available redirection folder list form “User configuration-->Policies-->Windows Settings-->Folder Redirection”.
Data in these redirected folders will not replicate to local, so it can reduce user logon time.
3. On the network locations where you store redirected folders, set disk quota to limit disk usage or file screening to control the types of files that users can save or set both.
