All friends...I had a Active Directory Server using Windows 2008 STD edition. It has 70+ users and many customizedGPO settings. Due RAID card failure, my server went down and I lost everything. Now I reinstall Windows 2008 STD and configure some GPO (but not all !!!).But I do notwant togo to thesame incedent again. Is there any way, where I can preserve all of my AD & GPO databaseor keep a complete databackup for faster disaster recovery. Need help !!!Rgds...Bari

Hello Bari,Yes, you can preserve all AD, GPO database by having a daily system state backup which you can easily restore incase of a failure..Here is a link for W2K8 backup guidelines-how-tohttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770266(WS.10).aspxIsaac Oben MCITP:EA, MCSE

Hello Bari, To keep a complete backup of a server for faster disaster recovery, we highly recommend you to perform a full server backup (including all volumes). As the full server backup is based on disk block level, it will backup all the system information and data (including AD and GPO) on that server. We can simply restore all of information onto another hardware in the event of a disaster (ex. hardware crash) with Windows Recovery Environment. For the detailed steps, please refer to: Backing Up Your Server http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753528.aspx Recovering Your Server http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753920.aspx Hope this can be helpful. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Meanwhile, we can also take system state backup of a domain controller to backup the Active Directory. Please check the document: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771290(WS.10).aspxfor more detailed steps. For functionality questions about DPM, please consider initial a new thread in the following newsgroup, it should be able to give you better support on that product.http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.dataprotectionmanagerHope this can be helpful. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
