RAID1 monitoring
We are unable to monitor RAID-1 on Windows machines. Are there any recommended applications or software or methods? Regards,

what kind of raid 1 is it? windows software raid 1 or some controller? in windows, computer management/disk management will tell you if the mirror is healthy and the event log will show problems, controllers usually come with their own mangement/notification software.

Sorry, its software RAID-1. I use the disk managemant to create the RAID, however don't have any tools to monitor it remotely.

hmm, you can view a remote computer management console (run mmc, add snapin, select computer management, select the computer), another possible approach is (this should work in windows 2008 or newer) to open your eventviewer, select Hardware Events in Applications and Service Logs, right click and Attach a task to this Log. There you can set up that you get an email if theres an entry in the specific log.

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping there might of been companies or tools out there to monitor RAID-1 remotely. I can monitor Linux machines using Nagios, however I can't believe there isn't a native tool to monitor Windows machines.

Hi, There isn’t a tool build-in Windows system to monitor a RAID system, you should contact some storage manufacture to perform the further research. By the way, if you want to run the server in a production environment, soft-RAID is not the best practice, you may need to purchase a hardware RAID controller. Best Regards, Vincent Hu
