Pushing out third party updates/software.
I'm currently running a network with a windows 2003 server and 200+ windows xp clients. I'm trying to find a way to push third party updates and software from the server to the clients. What would be the best way to do this?

There are lots of third party software distribution solutions. For built-in options, you can deploy MSI software through a group policy. If the software you want to distribute is an MSI (or MSP for patches) a GPO is a cheap easy way to go. If it's not in that format, you can buy repackaging software for under $100. If you have software assurance, App-V is simple THE BEST option and it''s free. This is the most under-rated software in my opinion. You can also look at solutions such as MS System Center, but it's NOT FREE! C Shane Cribbs http://www.georgiatechnologies.com

GFI LANGuard is a great product for this. It patches MS, Adobe, Java, software like 7zip it finds updates for. I've heard Dell's KACE is good but have never used it.Dave - http://www.dms-itconsulting.com
