Proximity feature in Ranking Model problem
<MinSpan name="Category4_MinSpanExactDiscounted" default="0.36555846936842451" maxMinSpan="1" isExact="1" isDiscounted="1" propertyName="Category4">
	<Transform type="Linear" a="1" b="0" maxx="1" />
	<Normalize SDev="1" Mean="0" />
	<Layer1Weights>
	  <Weight>0.0535459719685157</Weight>
	</Layer1Weights>
</MinSpan>

In my custom Ranking Model, I define a proximity feature above in the 2nd stage. However, when I check the rank detail of the search result, I seethat the rank score is boosted by this MinSpan feature on this Category4 managed property even though the value of this managed property of this document does not contain any words of the search query terms.

For example, search power drill, the MinSpan feature in the rankdetail says:

<proximity_feature name='Category4_MinSpanExactDiscounted' pid='1080' proximity_type='exact_discounted' used_default='0' raw_value='1' transformed='1' normalized='1' best_diff_terms_count='2' rarest_term_count='2' best_span_length='2' best_span_occ_count='2'  hidden_nodes_adds='0.053546 0 0 0 0 0 ' />

Actually, the value of Category4 managed property on this document is empty.

Any idea?

Hi,

For this issue, I'm trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at it.

Thanks,

Hi Avantee,

if i may ask do you need the 4th category to be added? if not, can we remove it?

i read this article, but i am not quite sure if should be able to implement at your environment:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f34266fd-c881-49bc-bff8-c1e485413f88/problem-with-blank-rows-in-a-ranking?forum=sqlkjpowerpivotforexcelhttp://jaclynsaito.wordpress.com/2011/06/16/custom-ranking-model/

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee558793%28v=office.14%29.aspx

and i check there is an update regarding this search feature at august 2013 update, perhaps you can check at your development environment for testing first.
